OneDrive App Reviews

Unreliable

When it comes to sync and cloud apps, reliability is probably the number one concern. It should sync, and you shouldn’t have to worry about it. That’s not the case with OneDrive at this point. It will choke on long file names, and stop working for other seemingly random reasons. Once it dies, you will likely have to restart your sync drive build from the beginning. Far from bulletproof and just doesn’t cut the mustard in the engineering sense. Hopefully they will do the hard work and fix this because otherwise has some nice user and viewing features. But again, not worth the trouble or money until reliability improves significantly.

Unusable

Impossible to sync all my files due to path length limitation. I never had this problem with Dropbox and Google Drive. Avoid headaches!

Worked and then wont open

I recently downloaded and it worked until the next day the app doesn’t want to open or update… im super frustrated at this point. Please fix these glitches! Otherwise it did well transferring documents between my windows and macbook

Cannot Access Shared Files

I am not able to access any files shared with me by others. This is a big disappointment, we use one drive for business at work and have a folder that is shared with all the employees and this app is completely usesless since it wont allow us to see the shared files.

Completely non-functional.

Whenever I try to use the app it totally hangs. It simply does not work at all. I have to Force-Quit it to even be able to type in a different app.

Years behind the competition

My company uses Office365, without which there would really be no reason to use this truly inferior cloud-based file storage and sync solution. OneDrive is slow and unreliable, having now lost several files and notebooks due to botched sync. As a Mac application, it does a poor job of integration - unlike a popular competing product, there are no options to share files and folders from within the Finder. Even the native Office 2016 applications fail to recognize OneDrive/OneDrive for Business folders as being “special” shared locations, and so all sharing must be done from within a web browser. Recently, the application has become less stable on my Macs. Clicking on the menu bar icons results in beachballs and keyboard freezes, even after a thorough check up of disk/file integrity, clearing of temporary and settings files, and reinstallation. All other applications are fine, of course. OneDrive is better on Windows, but that’s not much of a recommendation. I hope they can do better, but because my work matters to me I’m sticking with the real, mature sync product. The one that begins with a “D”.

OneDrive freezes the whole system

Sometimes the icon of OneDrive appears to be syncing. When I move the pointer to the icon and click on it, it will freeze the whole system. You cannot open Activity Monitor to kill it; you even open a terminal to kill it, because you won’t be able to type in any keys! The only thing I can do is to wait for a few minutes, so that it stops freezing the system, and then I can use whatever command to kill it. At the time of writing, it still has the “syncing” icon, and I have to be very carefull to not moving the pointer on its icon.

Terrible App

This is, by far, the worst application I have installed on my Macbook. It constantly freezes. Whenever I start the app, it shows that that it is syncing in the menu bar. When I click ont the icon to observe the status, the spinning wheel of death appears. This only happens with the OneDrive app. I know this because I tested other apps on the menu bar to make sure the system wasn’t freezing up on me. Please find a fix for this. It makes no sense to pay for a service and then run into these kinds of annoying issues.

Non Functional

This app no longer functions at all. It should be removed from the app store until they fix it. Not only is it completely non-responsive, it also prevents the keyboard from working in all other apps. Terrible!

Worst App

OneDrive keeps crashing harder than a windows pc

Dissapointed

You know, I gave Microsoft a chance on this. I’ve been an everything-but-Microsoft kind of person. Then Word for Mac 2016 came out and I thought, wow maybe they finally figured out everything. But no, I hook up OneDrive and right when I finally finished migrating over from drobox. box, and google drive, one drive just quit on me. Doesn’t sync, and just completely hangs no matter how many times I have restarted or re downloaded the app. I am computer proficient, so I don’t believe it is a user error. Sometimes, the keyboard doesn’t even work when it’s hanging, how does the app do that without have deep level access to the computer? That doesn’t happen with dropbox. Please just integrate word with other cloud services, you guys just can’t do it right so leave it to someone else and keep focusing on making office a great product.

completely broke!

I don’t know what happened, but as of today, this app no longer works on my computer period. I have uninstalled, deleted all files, restarted, and then reinstalled one drive and still freezes the moment I open the app and try to sync my drive. When it freezes, I can NOT typed in any other app or program on my computer. Highly frustrating! I use this app for almost everything, but I will likely be moving to a different cloud storage if this isn’s addressed.

No way to contact them for info about this buggy and illogical and dangerous app

It is impossible to ask them a question. You have to wade thru tons of “support’ documents, which really only support their bottom line, enabling them to get away without dealing with their customers. It is a very dangerous app as it can erase the original data on your computer if you are not careful. If you put your original data in their OneDrive folder on your computer, and something glitches it erases the data from your computer. The upload process is unclear. There was an error in uploading but no notification appeared, either on the website or on the local onedrive app for a day. The sort order of the files online is not clear and the data shown varies with files uploaded (synched) from their OneDrive folder and those dragged into a web window to upload. The uploaded files give a modified date which is the time it was uploaded to their site, (on their site) but does this mean they were compressed by them, modified in some other way, or is this really the “Uploaded” time stamp? If so the fact that it says “modified” shows you the overall lack of UI thought put into this system, despite the size and financial ability of Microsoft. Along with the inabiity to ask them a direct question, this makes this way of backing up a ridiculous risk to take. I signed up for a test of it. SAD SAD SAD that such a large company is so unable to do a simple thing like create a clear user interface. The problem with them and many other tech comapanies is that these apps are by by techies who love to dwell on a computer and mess around with it, fiburing things out, for whom the means has become the end, and not by USERS who are just interested in using the app to do what it should without having to mess around with it. I’ve seen this often in apps these days. While I am writing this, the One drive app just crashed in the background (Mac El Capitan). I rate this a useless and frustrating app because you will never be sure it is working. It does not even show you the number of files on a screen so you could check to see if the number of uploaded files matches the number in your original folder on your computer which you have tried to synch.

Horrible

It started working nice, but when I modified a document manually in the cloud, it just stpped syncing in, and now it doesnt sync, it crashes, usually spends a lot of time responding and now I hate it, please review it or fix it or whatever, but please fix

Poor OSX Implementation

I have been using OneDrive as a personal cloud storage medium for about 6 months. On Windows, it’s alright, not perfect or eve quite as good as some of the alternatives, but on OS X it’s downright awful. Performance is sub-par, on decent Mac hardware. It frequently hangs up and I have noticed that sometimes it does so with horrible side effects (like keyboard no longer being functional, for the entire OS, until the app is killed). Microsoft really needs to work on improving this application as it could be significantly better if it only performed about as good as alternatives.

Stop Working

This app stop working properly since last update. Do not stop sync and creates some typing issues when the app goes non responsive. Please fix, we need to work. And by the way, most of us are paying a subscription for this service, are we going to credited for the days with a useless app?

OneDrive for Business Hangs - Have to Force Quit

OneDrive app constantly hangs and I have to force quit in order to even work in other apps. When the app crashes, it freezes my keyboard making other apps unusable. Complete uninstall and reinstall didn’t fix the issue.

Don’t sync the “Documents” folder!!!

Update for version 17.3.6389.0415: This update has a regression: now if you click the status icon on the upper-right corner, it takes several minutes to respond! FINALLY I fixed the problem of persistent “Processing changes”! Just exclude the “Documents” folder for syncing. The problem is related to OneNote. Microsoft stores the OneNote file in your “Documents” folder (use a Web browser to visit OneDrive and confirm this). However, OneDrive for Mac stores the OneNote file as a .url file on Mac’s file system. Obviously there is a bug in OneDrive which keeps thinking the .url file is changed and needs to “Process changes” while actually there is nothing to be done. If you have anything in “Documents” folder, move them to another folder. Exclude the “Documents” folder in OneDrive, and now enjoy OneDrive :-)

Not Responding - Hanging Mac OSX.

*********** 06/01/16 Update *********** It does not seem to work right anymore. The updates now seem buggy. There may be fewer file name flags but the may be causing errors for synching and we don’t know why. The appliaction is not responding and hanging the system finder. We are having to force quit onedrive using Apple’s “Activity Monitor” application. ******** 01/05/2016 Update ************ I used to think this was OK but there are still so many issues. We have seen this crash after may starts again without any error message. You end up having to resync the entire file in a new location/name losing a day or two of producitivity. Box Sync and Dropbox are looking as the better option these days. Better still - set up your own Mac Mini server to share files accross devices. ****** Avoid the automated update onedrive would not reliably work. I manually started it up over and over again and it would crash moments later. Then after so many starts and crashes, the app no longer opens and runs. I had to reboot my computer to get one drive to work properly. Hopefully this will work better now after the reboot. ***** 05/14/2015 Update ***** It has gotten better but it still is not as good as the MicroSoft peer to peer file sharing service it replaced. The invalid file name characters (e.g, space at beggining of file name, slash mark /, can drive one crazy. I often download files that I save on ONEDRIVE that have invalid characters in them. If you have one file name invalid, onedrive used to not sync at all. Now it just does not sync the invalid files. Unfortunately, the icon seems to no longer indicate that you have files that will not sync. You have to look at pull down list of menu items to see if there are files that will not sync. It is easy enough to fix but I did not realize from just glancing at the icon that there was a file with an invalid character in its name. Accordingly, the user interface is not perfect. I don’t beleive it has ever allowed one to share individual files with different persons like dropbox allows. With all that said, MS storage rates are fairly reasonable with more real world values than others. However, it is geting more competitive all the time.

Crashing

What happened? No complaints and now this? Please fix.
